Payroll Bureau Supervisor/Manager

Location: Walsall/Birmingham
Salary: £30-£40k plus bonus

Wallace Crooke Ltd. is a leading provider of payroll solutions, specialising in comprehensive payroll services for businesses of all sizes. We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Payroll Bureau Specialist to join our team. This is an office-based position with some remote working, offering the opportunity to work with clients from various industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of clients and serve as their primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and support.
  • Process payroll accurately and on time for clients, including calculating wages, deductions, and withholdings.
  • Stay updated on changes in payroll regulations and compliance requirements, ensuring that client payroll processes are in line with current legislation.
  • Assist clients with payroll setup, including tax registrations, employee data collection, and system configuration.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to address client needs and resolve payroll issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide training and support to colleagues & clients on payroll software usage and best practices.
  • Review payroll reports and ensure accuracy before distribution to clients.
  • Maintain client payroll records and documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in a bureau or multi-client environment.
  • Strong understanding of payroll principles, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and systems (e.g., Sage, Paychex, Gusto).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
  • Certified Payroll Professional certification is a plus.

Tax Trainee

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Tax Trainee.

Position Overview: As a Tax Trainee, you will embark on an exciting career path in taxation, gaining hands-on experience and professional development opportunities in a dynamic and supportive environment. You will work closely with experienced tax professionals, assisting with personal tax, Corporation tax preparation, HMRC clearances, research, client communication, and compliance activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of various tax returns, including individual, corporate, partnership, and nonprofit returns.
  • Conduct research on tax laws, regulations, and rulings to support tax planning and compliance efforts.
  • Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, address inquiries, and provide updates on tax matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of client information, tax returns, and correspondence.
  • Support senior tax professionals in analysing clients' financial situations and developing tax planning strategies.
  • Stay updated on changes to tax laws and regulations through ongoing training and professional development activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to support client engagements and achieve team goals.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality requirements in handling sensitive tax information.

Qualifications:

  • ACCA, ACA
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in taxation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Working knowledge of IRIS would be an advantage
  • Previous experience in accounting or tax-related roles is required.
